Comenius Project

COMENIUS is a program funded by the European Union and is named after a famous educationalist, Jan Amos Comenius, who is known to be the father of modern education in Europe. The objective of the program is to bring European students from different countries together to have a better understanding of other European heritages as well as their own culture and country. edwinalauralievincent3-small.jpg

The theme of this particular Comenius project is “The way we were, the way we are”, and it will span over a period of two years. In the first year the participating schools will be concentrating on the social and anthropological aspects of changes in the different cultures, and in the second year they will be concentrating on the environmental impact that those changes have produced. The countries involved in this COMENIUS project are: Italy, Germany, Sweden, and for the first time The Netherlands Antilles. The entire fourth form of the St. Dominic High School is participating in the project along with Mrs. Schaminee, Ms.Magda, Mr. Paul, and Mrs.Gianne. The first meeting will be held from October 21st 2009 – October 27th 2009 in Benevento, Italy. Ms. Magda and Mrs. Gianne are the two teachers from our school that will be attending along with the three students that were chosen, namely Edwina Wong, Vincent Ramsami, and Lauralie Peterson. While in Italy, the students and teachers will partake in various activities. These activities include a sticker art performance, multicultural choir, a formal dinner party, a video conference between the Italian students and the students from our school and a cross cultural football match. And of course, there will be lots of sightseeing in several Italian cities. All in all, we wish the participating students and teachers the best of luck, and encourage them to have as much fun as possible.
