Introduction Print

Biology explores the levels of organization of life, from the molecular level, through microscopecellular levels. It includes developing of the interactions within and between organisms and between organisms and their environment. This course recognizes, however, that humans have a great influence on the environment than other species. This course, therefore, is designed to assist students to recognize their responsibility to conserve, protect, maintain and improve the quality of the biological environment for the future generations.

Expectation. It is expected that students will work individually and with others in practical, field and interactive activities that are related to the theoretical concepts in the course. Students are also expected to apply investigative and problem-solving skills, effectively communicate scientific information and appreciate the positive values and attitudes towards the living components of the environment and will also provide a sound foundation for those who wish to pursue further studies in the sciences.

Evalungsluation. In this course, each student will be evaluated on homework assignments, lab work, lab reports (SBA), quizzes, written tests and lab practicals. Students will be expected to write lab reports for many lab exercises. These reports will require research both in and out of class. The reports will be assessed using five skills including: Manipulation and measurement (MM), Drawing (D), Observation Recording and Reporting (ORR), Analysis and Interpretation (AI) and Plan and Design (PD). These lab reports must be completed according to requirements, in order to receive a passing grade for the Caribbean Examination Council. All assignments, tests, quizzes and labs will be given a point value based on importance and complexity.

Attitude. Your success in this course is highly dependent upon you and your attitude as well as your willingness to learn and work hard. This class is designed to prepare you for college and ‘the real world’. Just as in college and out in the world, it is up to you to make the most of your opportunities.
