Guadeloupe Exchange 2008 Print
-Written by: Mr. P. Swart, Teacher-
guadeloupe6.jpg On Sunday , after a smooth 50-minute flight, we arrived at the Pole Caraibes Aéroport in the middle of a moderate rain shower There is a reason why Guadeloupe is so green! All nineteen students were met at the airport by their correspondents -- French counterparts-- and went home with them pour s’installer -- to get settled. Mrs.Myncke, Mrs.Rouse and Mr.Swart were picked up by the professeurs (in local palance called ‘profs’) at whose homes they would be staying. M. Hellisey, the initiator of the exchange project, was present and supervising. M Ollivier, Mme.Darnal and Mme Poulet were also at the airport. For a detailed day to day report click read more.

Introduction Print

france-overviewFrench is a compulsory subject in Form 1 and 2. We aim to give our students an up-to-date linguistic knowledge, based on the four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) that can be useful for them in later life. We hope to make them discover our affection for this foreign language, which is also the official language of the French part of our island. We stress on some cultural aspects of this country and the importance of the language in a tourism based economy. From the third year on, French is an elective and students will be geared toward the CXC exam (general level). All skills are now tackled more in depth according to the CXC syllabus. We tfrance-flagry to offer a maximum of real-life situations (e.g. shopping, ordering a meal in a restaurant, telephone calls,…) with an emphasis on being able to understand and read the spoken language. A good grammatical foundation is also offered so that the students can read and write on an intermediate level. Our students are automatically enrolled in the exchange program with the Lycée Gerville Réache in Guadeloupe, so they have the support of native speakers from the Caribbean.
