After Primary School, students on St. Maarten go either to a vocational secondary school, called VSBO. (Preparatory Secondary Vocational Education) or to an academic secondary school (HAVO/VWO/CXC), depending on their academic level. The St. Dominic High School is an academic college preparatory Imageschool with English as the language of instruction. It will take a student five years to complete the whole program. During all these five years the student is obliged to take the following subjects:English, Mathematics, Dutch, Information Technology, Religion and Physical Education. The last two subjects are not exam subjects.

The other subjects offered within our school are characterized as electives as of Form 3 and may be dropped under certain conditions. The electives are: Spanish, French, English, Social Studies, History, Geography, Integrated Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Principles of Business (replaced by Economics for Form 4 as of August 2005), Principles of Accounts and Visual Arts.
