Last month the Indoor Games competitions were held.
What exactly are the indoor games? Well, these games are chess, checkers, and dominoes. Four schools created teams for each sport and a total of 37 students participated.. The competition took place on February 29, 2008 in the gym at Milton Peters College from 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM. The competing schools were: St. Maarten Academy, the Vocational School, St. Dominic High School, and Milton Peters College. The winners of each game are a s follows:
- Chess – St. Dominic High School
- Checkers – St. Maarten Academy
- Dominoes – Milton Peters College
Each game was supervised by three teachers. The domino players were allowed to choose their own set of rules. With the exception of dominoes (where two people won), each activity had one winner. The prizes were movie tickets. Thanks to all the teachers -- especially Ms. Sinatra Rouse. I think everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time.

On Sunday , after a smooth 50-minute flight, we arrived at the Pole Caraibes Aéroport in the middle of a moderate rain shower There is a reason why Guadeloupe is so green! All nineteen students were met at the airport by their correspondents -- French counterparts-- and went home with them pour s’installer -- to get settled. Mrs.Myncke, Mrs.Rouse and Mr.Swart were picked up by the professeurs (in local palance called ‘profs’) at whose homes they would be staying. M. Hellisey, the initiator of the exchange project, was present and supervising. M Ollivier, Mme.Darnal and Mme Poulet were also at the airport. For a detailed day to day report click read more.

Traditionally our 4th Form students organize a Christmas lunch for our well respected senior-citizens on St. Maarten. Once again the approximately 75 guests were welcomed by a special committee of students who guided them to the gym, which was transformed into a real restaurant. Lots of food and snacks were served, while at the same time students made sure that nobody would feel bored. Besides dancing, the singing of the Christmas carrols all together was received enthusiastically. Enclosed you see a beautiful picture of how the generation gap is closed by "dancing the Caribbean Christmas" way. If this doesn't bring everybody into the mood of Christmas.... Giving back to the group of St. Maarten people, who truly deserve our respect, must make you feel extremely proud! Congratulations, 4th Form students, for organizing such a wonderful event!

The Windward Island Inter-Scholastic Games |
-Written by Luigi Spadaro-
From November 31 through December 2nd 2007, a team of students went to St. Eustatius to represent St. Maarten in the 2nd ever Windward island games. Representing Sint Maarten in the swimming division were students from our school. In Statia -- short for St. Eustatius-- they enjoyed the hospitality of the friendly people of that island. The swimmers, along with the teams, stayed in the islands only high school -- the Gwendolyn van Putten School. Most other St. Maarten teams took home top honors. The swimmers of St. Dominic came back very victorious by taking gold for every heat! Nigel was awarded gold for the 50m and 100m breast stroke and silver for 50m back crawl, Leandre won gold for 50m freestyle and also silver for 100m freestyle. Luigi came back with gold for 100m freestyle, and 50m back crawl and also silver for 100m breast stroke. Rounding out the individual achievement was Jesus who took silver for 50m breast stroke as well as freestyle. The entire team won gold in the 200m freestyle relay. The trip was an overall success and is one they will never forget.

'Foundation Cooperative Funds' funds new Drama/Dance/Music classroom |
The Staff and students of St. Dominic High School are extremely grateful for the large donation made by the Dutch Stichting 'Samenwerkende Fondsen' -- Foundation Cooperative Funds --. After the school started with its African Drum Project (also sponsord by this same Foundation earlier this year), it was decided that the school would receive additional funds for this unique classroom. Not only will the classroom be used during regular school hours, but will also be open to the community for dance, drama and music workshops/classes after school. We are looking forward to the opening of the building and will try to do our utmost to let the St. Maarten people make use of these facilities. Once more, we are thankful Foundation Cooperative Funds. Click on their logo to go to their website. On the same website you can also see their initiative to sponsor the St. Maarten DARE project. It includes nice pictures of the DARE workshops held at schools.
